Event Description

You are invited to a special event, to be held on May 2nd at 4:30 PM in the Hinds Library - a showcase of early modern music that, we hope, will serve as the first in a series of conversations about the place of music in Renaissance drama and poetry.  The event will feature performances by our own John Lacombe, lutist extraordinaire, and Kevin Mensch, esteemed vocalist, together with John H. Burkhalter III on the recorder--a remarkable trio who have performed recently in celebration of Shakespeare's birthday (http://www.princetonlibrary.org/blog/2013/04/sometimes-difference).  Songs will include LachrymaeO Mistress Mine, Full Fathom Five,  and I Saw My Lady Weep.  Moreover, an acting troupe led by Dan Blank will showcase the interplay between text and music, and Russ Leo will speak about the import of music in the work of John Milton, particularly in the early poem "At a Solemn Music."  All are welcome to attend this event, a celebration of Renaissance music at the end of the semester!
