Psychoanalytic literary criticism has been justly rebuked for its reductionism. Is it possible to reinvent and rehabilitate psychoanalytic literary theory as a radical mode of formalism? This talk will answer in the affirmative, extending lines of thought developed in Professor Eyers’ recent book Speculative Formalism: Literature, Theory, and the Critical Present (Northwestern University Press, 2017).
