Out Run is riveting art-documentary about the only LGBT political party in the world. In the Philippines, the leaders (including a trans woman who serves as the face of the party) of the Ladlad Party employ campaign strategies that include everything from transforming beauty parlors into headquarters to forming alliances on the local level — even if it means supporting other candidates in quid pro quo moves. Come learn about this surreal real-life drama as the Ladlad party goes up against a rival gay organization put together by none other than anti-LGBT preacher and politician who anointed his group of supporters with the acronym AIDS. And come meet filmmaker S. Leo Chiang in conversation with Princeton professor Erin Huang.
Filmmaker Magazine recently published an interview with S. Leo Chiang and his film partner on OUT RUN about their experience shooting in the Philippines, the premiere in North Carolina after the passing of the anti-transgender law, a discussion around how documentary field is implicated in the #OscarSoWhite dialogue, and the the question of “who gets to tell the story”.
The Asian Pacific Film Fest is happening in LA this weekend. Leo will be there promoting the film. Follow the filmmakers on Facebook.
