The Sense Archive's inaugural series begins with artist-led 'Resonances'

the::sense::archive is a collaboration between Monica Huerta and Ava Shirazi. The project names a pursuit of, in their words, “a way of working, dreaming, creating, where morphing sensoria take the lead over logic-driven forms of making.”

In the first, artist-led, workshop of The Sense Archive's 2024-25 “sense::archivist” series, to be held in Haverford College's VCAM 105 Presentation Lounge and Kitchen on Wednesday, Oct. 30, 2024 from 7 to 9 p.m., Philadelphia-based artist Raúl Romero will lead participants through a multi-sensory, participatory workshop about mediums, surfaces, and soundscapes, working with materials which Romero has been preparing for them.

Each workshop in the 2024-2025 sense::archivist series will take place in an environment produced by an artist to activate a specific sensory constellation central to their practice. Subsequent workshops, days and spaces TBA, are:

Monica Huerta, assistant professor of English and American studies at Princeton, and Ava Shirazi, assistant professor of classics and a 2024-26 visual culture, arts, and media (VCAM) faculty fellow at Haverford College, were previously Cotsen Postdoctoral Fellows in the Princeton Society of Fellows, in the 2016 and 2017 cohorts, respectively.

the::sense::archive is beginning its programming as a Humanities Council working group, supported by a 2024 Humanities Council special grant. The “Resonances” workshop is supported by the Haverford College Hurford Center’s Tuttle Creative Residencies Program.
