Declaration Steps
Before your appointment with an English adviser:
- Between March 28 and April 15, declare your departmental major via the TigerSpace link on the Registrar's Major Declaration page.
- The Office of the Dean of the College provides a guide to declaring your major.
- Begin filling out your departmental academic planning form (DAPF). Review your transcript against the English department's Courses by Distribution Requirement page to see which distributions you have already completed; you may be farther along in your major than you thought.
- DAPF Instructions (PDF, 2021) provide tips.
- Have questions regarding English major requirements/distributions? Schedule an individual appointment with the director of undergraduate studies, (DUS), Associate Professor Russ Leo, via email, or email the undergraduate administrator, Lauren Romano. Please email us in advance or review the department website for office hours.
- Schedule an appointment with a member of the English faculty advising team to review your DAPF, discuss your ENG 300 seminar choices for the fall semester, and your academic plan. Please email the adviser directly; the English faculty advising team's schedule is posted below. Appointments are scheduled in 15-minute increments on Eastern Standard Time (EST).
During your appointment with an English adviser:
- Have your DAPF available to share with the adviser (via screen share if in a Zoom meeting).
- Discuss your choices for ENG 300. Majors are required to take an ENG 300 seminar to fulfill the junior seminar departmental requirement in the fall of their junior year. This year, one of four ENG 300 seminars may fulfill this requirement. To balance seminar sizes, seminars are assigned in order of students sharing their preferences with an English adviser and registering on the ENG 300 seminar request form any time after declaring English as their major; you can view the section descriptions in the ENG 300 Fall 2024 Booklet.
After your appointment with your English adviser:
- Register your ENG 300 seminar choices on the ENG 300 seminar request form. Students will receive their individual seminar assignments via email after 5 p.m. on April 16.
- Complete your DAPF for next Fall. Though the system allows only one DAPF, we recommend that you make at least two course schedules, one for your first choice of ENG 300 seminar and one for your second choice, and email both schedules to the DUS. In past years, students typically have been assigned to either their first or second choice but in certain circumstances, the third choice has been assigned. Email copies of both plans to DUS Russ Leo by 12 p.m. on April 10.
- The DUS will email you with any questions; if you do not hear back, assume that your schedule has been approved.
- Register in TigerHub for Fall 2024 courses on April 17.
Please email Lauren Romano if you have any questions regarding this process.
